Other Options
There are several other options that you may end up using as you become more familiar with editing. First is the idea of checking out files. On the remote menu towards the bottom, is an option to enable check out. This works very well when you have multiple people working on the same site. When someone tries to open a files that is currently being edited they are sent a message about who is editing the file currently. They can open a read only version but cannot save. This prevents double changes and information being lost.
Testing sites are another location to upload folders. Usually it is parallel to the live remote site, but it is not public. Banks, auction sites and other business that use complicated scripts or online transactions use testing sites to debug new pages before they go live. This is called a beta test in computer speak.
If you manage a large site and store files in it that will not be seen by users you can cloak them. Cloaking exempts those files from uploading, synchronizing, etc.
Design notes allow you to store additional information about each page such as items that need to be improved or parts of the site that are due for revision.
Several other options are available but are beyond the scope of this course. If they interest you visit the Macromedia site the left and use their help section for more information.
